I just listened to Professor Mearshiemer on a podcast appearance recorded just after the Oval Office fireworks and he mentioned that he could understand Zelensky’s frustration at his current situation of being out of options with regards to the current American administration wanting to bring an end to the conflict.
While I’m loath to disagree with Professor Mearshiemer, my sympathy for Zelensky and his current situation is exactly zero.
He, not Biden (as much as I do loath him), not Boris Johnson, Macron or anyone else is ultimately responsible for the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians that have died the last three years.
Zelensky was elected on a “peace with Russian platform”with over 70% of the vote in 2019.
That’s point one.
Point two is that he felt Ukraine could defeat Russia?!
What exactly would that look like?
And point three is that he’s either stupid or completely naive: to trust Biden and the U.S. foreign policy establishment.
That’s what I see when I look at Zelensky: a man that was willing to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of his own people, the destruction of his country all for ends that could never be achieved due to geography and population size.
Oh, and generational-spanning wealth. I guess that’s something.
That Gospel passage would have been the perfect check for the Ukrainian leadership to been exposed to in April 2022 in Istanbul. Another demerit on “President” Zelensky’s legacy.
Zelensky has had multiple opportunities to end this blood shed, but has declined. His performance in the Oval Office really defied reason. I don’t think, as some have speculated, that he’s grifting.
I think he’s bought the propaganda pumped out by the Western press around his leadership and the war and has a messianic complex as a Time magazine piece from last year quoted an Ukrainian official at the time.
So true about Trump—for all his flaws he is NOT a war monger…in Ukraine, at least.
Not very optimistic about his plans for Gaza and his actions towards the most important country in the world to the United States—Israel.
Yesterday the world watched a boy throwing sticks at men with whom he disagrees.
Astonishing diplomacy.

Zelensky is not of that persuasion that reads the Gospels. I believe he is just playing a role.
