Hi Chris I would like to mention something about the war in the middle east. In the Bible Genesis chapter 15 verse 18 "In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates" This is why Israel wants all this land which includes all of Palestine, Lebanon and a chunk of Syria and Saudi Arabia.
Unfortunately, they rejected the Messiah, the New David. The Church is Israel now. Intriguingly, traditional Jews in Israel reject secular Zionism, believing it to be blasphemy to seek the old homeland without the Messiah.
I think it's great you're a Christian, and a Merry Christmas to you all. But . . .
In the Orphic myths, the maiden goddess Persephone was seduced by Zeus in the guise of a serpent. She bore him a son, the godling Zagreus, who, when Zeus placed him upon the throne of heaven, was attacked and dismembered by the Titanes. His heart was recovered and he was reborn through Semele as the god Dionysos.
So it's not quite true that pagans had no concept or understanding of a divine child born to be sacrificed. The Titans were the ancestors of humans to boot.
I don't think I said they had no concept of sacrifice or divinity. But they had lost touch with monotheism. Zeus et al were bound by fate and higher powers.
Beautiful. I’m on my way to church for 4th Sunday of Advent. This was lovely to read beforehand. Thank you!
A wonderful reminder in these dark times. Somehow the light shines every time such ideas, such thoughts are thought and spoken.
Happy Christmas Chris 🎄🎄

However, Aristotle did believe in a Prime Mover.
