"Putin is obviously not close to being some kind of saint."

I'll nominate him if in fact his special operation eliminates:

Thank you for your clear eyed commentary. It needs to be said.

The body language in the photo says a lot. Prissy American, legs crossed in withdrawal, hands folded in prayer, and a Russian ready to pounce, thinking "I can take this guy."

excellent as usual Chris. Putin isnt a saint but hes got to be one of the nest national leaders ever, he turned a nation around paid all the debts and manages multiple small states pretty darned well . I have an ex ussa mil friend lives there and he lives better there and get far better medical and other facilities than he got in murrica, he has zero reason to lie about anything and from what hes sent me re the amenities and lifestyle, its a pretty awesome place, they can be proud of.

Bidens senile and so are a few others the rest are the warmongers and mil ind who always see riches in conflict and have to keep it going, any place they can manage to. Trump deserved the peace prize far more than ohbummer did. His desire to rebuild ussa and mind their own biz was another reason they wanted him gone

I would greatly prefer you to make an argument so I can learn something.

Let me try to do that, let's see if you do learn something:

- yes, he did stabilise Russia (which is not a great feat starting from such a low base) but you choose to completely gloss over a huge part of Putin's legacy, namely murderous nature of his regime, the number of opponents poisoned, shot or at best exiled is never mentioned, nor is the police brutality and imprisonment of ordinary citizens ever mentioned. And it cannot be shrugged of by simply saying that "he is not a saint".

- Kissinger is a "has-been" politician from an era long gone and is not a relevant source for anything today.

- NATO expansion was done with the express wish of each and every country to join. Usually these were countries who were attacked and/or occupied by Russia/USSR in the past and wanted nothing to do with them ever again, NATO was a guarantee for that. Same thing goes for Finland (had a war with Russia) Sweden and Ukraine. On the other hand, no country outside of maybe some from the former USSR wanted anything to do with Russia in the form of political or economic alliances, neither does Russia have the soft power to attract them.

- Without any soft power to attract countries to their sphere, Russia resorts to violence. Internally, Chechnya. Externally, Georgia was attacked and 2 breakaway republics formed. Annexation of Crimea, and eastern provinces, all followed the same scenario. Military attacks justified by protecting the Russian minority. Plus the Syrian adventure which was an exercise in supporting a dictatorship equal to his own.

-All of these attacks and agression toward sovereign countries was largely tolerated by the West and NATO. This encouraged Putin to take the next step and invade Ukraine. This time the operation is a bit larger and it revealed that his military is woefully corrupt, antiquated and capable only of mass destruction and war crimes against civilians. The gains they did manage came at a cost of huge numbers of dead soldiers, destroyed cities, and paradoxically, he destroyed the very regions he was supposed to liberate (Donbas). Even if by some miracle he manages to get some territory, it will be a burnt land.

- Finally, if your point is to shift the blame to the West, their politicians and their mistakes, don't bother. Yes, there are many of those, and they are not saints, to borrow your phrase. But this war is exclusively Putin's wish and his fault. So far, he failed miserably, he wanted a quick victory, and he got a mangled army and isolated country. Even when the war stops, Russia will be out of the global trade for many years. Most countries will never trust them again to buy anything from them in large quantities. It will be back to 90s for them, however the war ends.

- the final conclusion is - Putin was not misunderstood and ignored, quite the contrary, he was appeased and tolerated for a very long time, which enabled him to cause chaos. That is the real fault of the West and global community.

What about BRICS? Kissinger made his comments at WEF? Georgia attacked Russia. NATO bombed Serbia. Europe loves Russian energy. Syrian adventure was to stop US-created ISIS from toppling an ally.

I would prefer she hang around, maybe she would learn something. Most modern problems are due to uninformed emotional people.

What was not backed up with data? What data do you have that backs up how these are false??? The fact you can’t look at data and think about what it means is really sad.
