I'm so glad I found you, Chris (I saw you on a podcast, with Ernst van Zyl, I think you're my new favourite writer here, thank you! I will order your book (just as soon as I find work). I write in a similar style to yours (though I am sure much worse), also memoir veiled in opera reviews, if you'd like to read, would love your thoughts or any help on writing!: https://www.peaisgreen.com/p/madama-butterfly-and-an-ode-to-the
I think there was an email block. I have cleared it now, I have no idea what I do to invite these blocks:-). Kindly let me know if that's still the case :-)
Wow thank you, I love CS Lewis and Jung as well. I can't believe the link doesn't work, are you able to see my Substack at all if you click on my name? Thank you for letting me know this!
Just finished Jung's autobiography. Intriguing. I have got in now. Really enjoyed hearing from a Canadian. Have met a few here in Kenya but was often disappointed with their love of Big Brother. These words really struck a chord. So sorry for your loss. There are so many tragic stories. And, like you say, we are not allowed to talk about them in public. In Jungian terms, what darkness are we refusing to encounter and what monsters will we summon as a result?
"Me, the unvaccinated leper, being scolded from getting into an Uber to go to mass at Christmas, alone. I will never forget telling friends what I always knew deep in my heart, that my beloved brother died from AstraZeneca, and rather than a modicum of compassion, being met with blank stares and awkward silences, gaslighted into judgements, labels, changing topics into indifference as if my precious genetic half never even existed. I will never forget being scolded and yelled at in public, rebuked at the mere desire of wishing to discuss my anger that the harms of the stupefying lockdowns inflicted on people."
Thank you, Chris! Sometimes in the evenings, I'll listen to poetry - between Jung, CS Lewis and Jordan Peterson on YouTube, they really pulled me through. You might also really love this rendition of Desiderata by Max Ehrmann, it's pulled me through my darkest hours. Recently I had a chance to recite this piece, but not nearly as good as Shane, it's a beautiful poem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaVaF6TkSUU
Just discovered this Substack through your interview with Jerm on TNT. I so wish I had found you during the Great Covid Panic. I’m a fellow South African from Grahamstown. Is your book available anywhere in SA? Amazon isn’t an option here as you probably know and I don’t do Kindle versions. So much of what you said in the interview and in your Substack posts really resonates with me.
I wrote a review ( just appeared on Substack) a few days back, but glad to find we both have a home together here! See the review .https://open.substack.com/pub/chriswaldburger/p/announcement-my-debut-book-is-here?r=f4g9r&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
I have followed you so you should get me email?
Sorry, wrong link! Try this one https://open.substack.com/pub/philipparees/p/the-ink-of-anguish?r=f4g9r&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
Just ordered your book. 🫶🏻
Hi Chris, so impressed with the little piece that I read.... I can so relate.... 😉
Thank you very much. This is truly the reason I wrote it.

Opera reviews! Excited to read! You are very kind.
I always think reading the best modern writers is very helpful. I love the style of Evelyn Waugh and CS Lewis in particular.
Sadly, your link won't work for me. I get blocked.

Sounds like a great read, I look forward to buying it.
I tried to drop you a personal email but Substack said it could not be delivered. I guess you have to follow me back to open DM options!
Brilliant, thanks. I didn’t realise that this was possible.

Hi Sarah, you can order the paperback version, Amazon just adds import tax, but price is still below book shops...
I have reviewed it here https://open.substack.com/pub/philipparees/p/the-ink-of-anguish?r=f4g9r&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
Reading your book now!
Thanks Chris
Looking forward to reading.
