First of all, let me state upfront that this post is merely asking questions. I am not trying to give advice or claim expert knowledge of the Wuhan virus. (Yes, it came from there, just like Ebola came from nearby the Ebola River.)
First question:
If the virus has been checked in Wuhan, what does this video mean? Where are the people?
Check out the replies.
This mystery leads to my questions regarding the stats.
If the pic is too small, go to the url. But the numbers do not make sense. Compare China to Italy to Germany. Why are the death rates so different? It surely cannot be that Italy is that much older than Germany in terms of population?
And then why has Russia and India not caught it badly from China?
Any ideas?
Finally for today, it seems to me that clever people out there are talking of a cure. Elon Musk drew the world’s attention when he tweeted this:
If you follow that link, you will read quite a compelling case for treating the virus with quinine - yes, the stuff the British powdered water with to make tonic, which was still a bit difficult to quaff down so they added gin and a slice of lemon to it. All to help prevent and treat malaria in their tropical colonies.
You can read another paper in support of this here.
Could this be true? The credentials of these scientists seem pretty good.
Quinine comes from the bark of the South American tree, named by Linnaeus, the chap who invented the naming system of all organisms, ‘Cinchona’, because its bark had apparently cured the Countess of Cinchona in Peru in the 17th century.
This bark then became known as Jesuit’s Bark, as the priestly order would use a compound of cinchona bark around the world as a medicine, especially for Malaria.
Obviously, there is no money to be made if this outdated remedy can help you prevent or treat the Wuhan virus. Is that why nobody is talking about it?
Doctors, please educate me here.
It seems to me that if we were living in the 19th century, doctors would just be handing out quinine.
Some people are claiming this is already happening in parts of the world. And this may be the reason for the strange disparities in death rates between countries.
Either way, I still think isolation and staying away from crowds is the best thing we can all do for ourselves and society. Slow the spread down to help our healthcare systems. But if we could get some answers to the questions above, I think that would be helpful too.
In coming days, I want to look at some of the strange reports coming out from various countries around painkiller treatments, the question of testing, how the crisis is an opportunity for necessary and radical economic reform, and the shock of our materialist society suddenly dealing with mortality en masse.
A lot more to come - so use these buttons below.
